DGK!!

I've always had MAD respect for Stevie Williams. I remember when he was coming up, back in the late nineties. He's one of the first minority street skaters that I remember clearly who was really doing it. As a fan of skateboarding, he's definatly one of my favorites. This is a short documentary about Stevie posted on Riottt.com by Bee Nguyen. DGK is the label, Dirty Ghetto Kids is the team.

Sketchcast.com

Peep this out, it's actually harder than it looks. It's easier if you have a Wacom pen which I know most people don't have or even know about. Look them up, I won a tablet in the Cut&Paste Battle so I'm getting used to using one. They're definately much easier to use than a mouse when performing certain tasks in Illustrator or Photoshop, take your pick. I'm actually picking my nose....

CityShrinker

Peep this site CityShrinker.com out, this guy takes photos of cityscapes and then "miniaturizes" them to make them look like models. I actually seen an ad in the most recent WIRED magazine on how to do this in Photoshop. I'm going to give you step by step instructions on how do this cool technique.

It's called a tilt-shift effect. (without the expen$ive tilt-shift lens)

1. Import your image to Photoshop, then press Q to enter Quickmask mode.
2. Select the gradient tool and set it to Reflected Gradient. Click on the area you want to be in focus and drag the cursor in the direction you want the image to blur.
3. Press Q again to complete the mask.
4. Apply a blur filter from the Filters menu.
5. BUG OUT on your creation!

1492 - Reign In Blood

Check out this little excerpt from the documentary The Canary Effect which was I noticed towards the end of 2005, but never got much mainstream attention. I'm not a big fan of the guy, Ward Chuchill who is interviewed for the film. That's a whole other topic and the big picture here is Columbus Day and how the USA celebrates this so-called holiday by not delivering my mail and closing my bank!! WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!!?? Anyway, check it out and feed your brain!! It'll thank you later.

I'm the Q-Bert of Photoshop!

(semi-final winning design)

Well, not exactly. I don't think Q-bert lost any battles in the DJ game. However, I did end up in the Top 4 SemiFinals for the CUT&PASTE Digital Design Tournament. Over 800 heads came out for the event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and packed the entire house! I was stoked just to be able to participate in this competition, let alone place as a Semi-Finalist. You can view the winning designs at photos from the event HERE.

BIG SHOUT OUT to the whole C&P team - John, Jenn, Noah & Kelly as well as the SF team Wyeth, Lisa and Lily. The Eight contenders and the 800+ people that crammed the venue, THANK YOU! I had a blast and can't wait for this movement to grow.

Much more to come in the future! Stay tuned and check out my new site if you haven't been there yet.
